Have you heard...?

As a relatively new mom, I am always looking for new ideas and other mommy "intel". Thought others might be in search of the same and wanted to post it somewhere. My parenting "style" does not fall into a neat little category so the views presented here will probably have a little for everyone. Hope you hear it first from me! :-)

Collecting Containers

I can't get rid of containers. I have coffee canisters, baby food jars, margarine tubs, etc. filling my storage areas. I can't bear the idea of tossing them. First, mostly, they are not recyclable. Second, they may have some other good use.
  • When my son was eating baby-food, I bought half and made the other half. I used the washed out jars for thawing and heating the food I had frozen. It worked out well because I was able to use the bottle/food warmer and didn't have to worry about uneven heating using the microwave.
  • Some of the large plastic containers have been good for the bath. Using a plastic cup to pour water over the bather can backfire when the little guy crushes the cup.
  • Plastic tubs of different sizes can be stacked or used to serve/save snacks.
  • Coffee canisters - as long as there are no sharp edges - seem to be destined to be reincarnated as a drum set.

The only problem I see is that I only have one child and he can only use so many containers - I am always looking for others who may need some more for their home or classroom!

As an update to this, I have been seeing a lot of information about saving energy and filling old plastic containers with water to put in your fridge or freezer are helpful to keep it full at all times and keep the energy usage down on keeping it cold.
